I. Position

Title:Payroll Accountant

Classification: Full-Time


II. Summary of Overall Purpose/Goal of Position:

The Payroll Accountant will oversee and supervise the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.


III. Responsibilities:

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including, but not limited to new hires, terminations, and relocations
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Benefit plan execution through deductions and transmits 401(k) deferrals to plan administrator
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures
  • Process and reconcile bonus records and maintain all documentation
  • Creates and manages all necessary ADP reports
  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • At least 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus
  • Multi-state employment tax experience, including but not limited to; federal/state/local tax regulations
  • Must have ADP Workforce Now experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office with strong use of Excel
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to remain flexible to changing priorities
  • Able to work independently on regular routine assignments, including managing time to meet critical deadlines
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality and integrity
